Processing Routes & End Products
The production of copper round wire follows a well-established processing sequence. The starting material, Ø8–12.5mm copper rod, is first processed through breakdown drawing machines, which reduce the rod to intermediate wire diameters through a series of tandem dies. The drawn wire then undergoes annealing to restore ductility and remove work hardening, followed by further drawing to achieve final gauge dimensions. The finished round wire can be further processed in four key routes:
Cable Production: Stranded or bunched together and insulated to produce power cables, control cables, and communication cables for electrical transmission and distribution
Magnet Wire: Enameled with insulating coatings to produce magnet wire for motors, generators, transformers, and inductors
Paper/Fiber Wrapped Wire: Wrapped with paper or fiber insulation via lapping machines for specialized transformer and reactor applications
Stranding/Cabling: Combined with other wires to form multi-conductor cables for automotive, aerospace, and industrial applications
