About Aluminum Rod

Aluminum rod is a key intermediate product in the aluminum processing industry, serving as the foundational feedstock for a wide range of downstream applications. Unlike aluminum billet, which is primarily destined for extrusion into profiles, aluminum rod is specifically produced for further processing into wire, busbar, and mechanical products through drawing, rolling, or extrusion processes. It is the critical link between aluminum melting and the production of high-value electrical and industrial components.
• Raw Material Sources
Produced from Aluminum Ingot (melted in reverberatory, double chamber, induction, shaft, or crucible furnaces)

 

The molten aluminum is continuously cast and rolled into rod form via CCR (Continuous Casting & Rolling) lines, or directly extruded via Conform continuous extrusion technology from cast feedstock

• Available Sizes

Standard diameters vary by production method and application:

– Ø8–12.5 mm (for wire drawing and cable applications)
– Ø12.5–30 mm (for busbar and extrusion applications)
– Custom sizes available upon request

• Processing Routes & End Products

The production of aluminum rod follows a well-established processing sequence. Aluminum ingot or slab is first melted in one of the furnace types (reverberatory, double chamber, induction, shaft, or crucible), then continuously cast and rolled into rod via CCR lines or directly extruded via Conform or Konform LLJ Series extrusion lines. From these rods, multiple downstream processing routes are available:

– Round Wire: Produced via Drawing Machines for electrical conductors, power cables, and communication wires
– Flat Wire: Produced via Draw Bench for transformer windings and specialty electrical applications
– Busbar: Manufactured via Konform LLJ Series extrusion or draw bench for power distribution systems
– Aluminum Tube & Profile: Extruded from rod via Konform technology for construction, automotive, and industrial applications

Through these integrated processing routes, aluminum rod serves as a critical material for the electrical, automotive, construction, and industrial sectors, delivering lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and highly conductive solutions that power modern infrastructure and manufacturing.
